About Me

I am a multi-disciplinary artist, drawing from my roots in graphic design, woodworking, printmaking, photography, and traditional drawing.

I try to take a playful approach to i deeply personal issues in order to create work that will resonate across cultural boundaries and speak to our shared human experience

Artistic Journey

My art career started in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico moving to France and finally the U.S. I've worked on both coasts of the U.S. and am currently living and working in the Washington DC metro area.

I navigate between the traditional arts and emerging technology. The artwork drivess the medium.

Experience

I have been working as a professional artist for mmore than 25 years and showing on idividal exhibits internationally. Check out my curriculum vitae (CV) for more details.

Current

Before the Americas

Before the Americas is an art historical survey featuring 45 works by Afro-Latino, Caribbean, and African American artists. These artists confront racial and colonial constructs and have often been invisible within common art historical narratives. The exhibit traces the significance of these artists through four themes: Genetic Memory, Migration, Invisibility, and Interconnectivity.

Recent Series
Cuaderno de Viajero/Traveler's Journal

This show explores the beauty that can be found in the mundane. Any drawing, even something as simple as a sketch of a watermelon or a haircomb can be a treat to be celebrated. Collages displayed in 3D round out this show currently on view at the MAG (Grpahic Arts Museum) in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico.

I have been working on a series of 2 sided collages recently that are then displayed in 3D so that you can view both sides. This project has allow me to expand my creativity and experiment with mixed media in a different way. In some way feel that these new works encompass many of my past explorations in terms of color, layers and textures.

Check out my exhibitions page for details on the recent shows. Keep an eye out for openings and talks as I love sharing my work, ideas, and hearing how people experience the art.
